Monsoon's first spell in Delhi early Friday inundated the most posh areas of the city alike, including the Lutyens' Delhi which is home to several ministers and MPs, giving them a hard time reaching Parliament for the 18th Lok Sabha session. From braving the flood-like situation with rolled up trousers and carrying shoes in their hands to being carried up by aides, the political figures opted for different and peculiar ways to reach Parliament. Taking a dig at the situation, Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said he "wouldn't be able to make it to Parliament without a boat". Sharing visuals of waist deep waterlogging outside his residence, the minister wrote on X, "This is the corner just outside my home in Lutyens' Delhi. Woke up to find my entire home under a foot of water — every room. Carpets and furniture, indeed anything on the ground, ruined. "Apparently the storm water drains in the neighbourhood are all clogged so the water had no place to go. ...

How Can Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh Qualify For T20 WC Semi-finals

The T20 World Cup semi-final race in Group 1 has become really interesting. India became the first team from the group to enter the semi-finals as they beat the Mitchell March-led  Australia by 24 runs on Monday. However, the other three teams in the group are not out. The points table is as follows - India (6 points, 3 games, NRR +2.017), Australia (2 points, 3 games, NRR -0.331), Afghanistan (2 points, 2 matches, NRR -0.650), Bangladesh (0 points, 2 matches, NRR -2.489).  Now, Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Australia can qualify for semi-finals. Following are the scenarios:  1. Afghanistan can enter the semi-finals with a win over Bangladesh. That way they will reach 4 points and be the second team from Group 1 of Super 8 to enter last four stage.  2. Australia can enter semi-finals only if Afghanistan lose to Bangladesh with a margin of less than 61 runs (considering the first innings total is 160) or outside 13 overs. 3. Watch: "Cricket Team Ko Kya Hua Hai?", Babar Azam Roasted In Pak Parliament

The Pakistan cricket team had a horrible outing in the T20 World Cup 2024 as the Babar Azam -led side crashed out of the competition in the group stage. They were beaten by United States and India in their opening two matches and although they did beat Canada and Ireland, it was too little too late for them. The unceremonious exit led to massive criticism of the Pakistan cricket team - both by fans and experts - with fingers being pointed towards captain Babar Azam. The fallout of the exit even reached the Pakistan parliament where Abdul Qadir Patel, a member of parliament, took a dig at Babar for performing horribly in the T20 World Cup with a reference to former Prime Minister Imran Khan. "Ye cricket team ko kya hua hai. Yeh America se bhi haar gaye. Yeh India se bhi haar gaye toh Babar Azam ko apne hi kisi senior cricketer se sabak lete hue haarne ke baad ek jalsa rakhe, woh usme kagaz lehraye bole dekho yeh mere khilaf saazish ho rahi hai, koi usse kuch nahi puchega. Why India Aren't In T20 WC Semis Despite Win vs Bangladesh - Explained

Image
The Indian cricket team's march in the T20 World Cup 2024 continued with a big 50-run win over Bangladesh in Antigua on Saturday. The likes of Hardik Pandya , Virat Kohli , Jasprit Bumrah , Arshdeep Singh performed really well as India stayed unbeaten in the T20 World Cup 2024. However, despite the second successive win in the Super 8 stage of T20 World Cup, India are not yet in the semi-final. Here's how: India have four points in two matches (NRR +2.425). The other teams are: Australia (two points in one game, NRR + 2.471), Afghanistan (0 points from 1 match, NRR -2.350) and Bangladesh (0 points from 2 games, -2.489).  Now, if Afghanistan beat Australia in their next match, then Australia beat India and then Afghanistan win vs Bangladesh, three teams will be on four points. The NRR will then decide the top two teams in the group. Hence, India are not yet in the semi-finals.  Hardik Pandya produced an all-round show while Kuldeep Yadav foxed Bangladesh batters with his ...

Acted On Unsecured Loans To Avert Bigger Problems: RBI Governor

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) endeavors to smell out a crisis early and act on it, Governor Shaktikanta Das said, stating that not taking any action on the unsecured lending front would have created "bigger problems". The November 2023 action to curb growth in the riskier unsecured lending has had the desired impact as the growth in such portfolios slowed down, Mr Das said addressing an international conference on financial resilience at the RBI's College of Supervisors in Mumbai. Restrictions on unsecured lending were the result of a view that there could be a potential problem in the credit market because of growth in unsecured lending, he said. The overall headline parameters were looking good, but there was "clear evidence" of dilution of underwriting standards, lack of proper appraisals, and a mentality to join the bandwagon for driving up the unsecured lending among some lenders, he added. "We thought if left unattended, these vulnerabilities ca...

"Chahal Or...": Dravid's Mega Hint On Change In India XI vs Afghanistan

India head coach Rahul Dravid on Wednesday indicated that one among wrist spinners Kuldeep Yadav or Yuzvendra Chahal could be included in the playing XI in their T20 World Cup Super Eight match against Afghanistan on Thursday, looking at the conditions, which seem conducive for slow bowlers. India had relied predominantly on its pace bowling arsenal at the Nassau County Stadium in New York as the drop-in pitches there had uneven bounce, which aided the quicks. "It's tough to leave anyone out. New York had pace bowlers conditions... slightly different. We might need something different here (in Barbados). Yuzi (Chahal) or Kuldeep (Yadav) could be used here," said Dravid, while interacting with the media on the eve of the Super Eight game. "We are lucky to have players with all-round abilities. We had eight batters but we (also) had seven bowling options," he added. Dravid also added that India will be flexible with its batting order and change it as per the...

I challenge PM Modi to start preparations today - keeping this fake Shiv Sena away," he added. Mr Thackeray also rubbished speculation about the two Sena factions joining hands and remaining in the NDA fold. He would never go with those who tried to "finish off" his party, Mr Thackeray said. ...

"Had To Recall Retired Stars": Ex-PCB Chief Shows True Picture Of Pakistan

Former Pakistan Cricket Board chairman and cricketer Ramiz Raja has slammed the Pakistan team after their group stage exit at the 2024 T20 World Cup. Pinpointing the many different aspects in which they were lacking, Ramiz Raja used the term "mind-boggling" to highlight the poor decision-making during the tournament. After a shock loss to co-hosts USA and then defeat to arch-nemesis India, Pakistan failed to make the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup. As a result, their qualification for the 2026 T20 World Cup is also not guaranteed. "There was no consistency in selection, their preparation was hodgepodge because they didn't know who was going to open the innings, and they were in experimental mode for a very long time," said Ramiz Raja, in his first criticism of the team. Pakistan went with the experienced duo of Mohammad Rizwan and captain Babar Azam at the top at the start of the tournament, leaving out young Saim Ayub , a decision that brought in critic...

Telangana Congress MLA's Bakrid Greeting Sparks Row, He Apologises

A ruling Congress MLA in Telangana on Monday landed in a controversy after his Bakrid greetings on social media included a graphic image of a cow, drawing sharp response from the BJP. The Congress legislator, Kumbam Anil Kumar Reddy, later apologised for the "inadvertent error", even as the post was removed from all related social media accounts. The poster was supposed to have the image of a goat and it has now been removed from social media platforms, he said. BJP MLA Raja Singh, taking exception to the image of a cow in Mr Reddy's Bakrid greetings, alleged Hindus are insulted wherever Congress forms government. While there is nothing objectionable about greeting people on the occasion of Bakrid, what message does the MLA want to convey, Raja Singh, known for his strong Hindutva views, asked. Why is Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy silent on the matter, he asked. Anil Kumar Reddy, in a video release later, said he is a 'Ram bhakt' and that he has always foll...

"Bharat" and "India" will be used interchangeably in NCERT textbooks as is the case in the country's Constitution, National Council of Educational Research and Training Director Dinesh Prasad Saklani has said. The comments assume significance in the wake of a high-level panel working on the social science curriculum recommending that "India" should be replaced with "Bharat" in school textbooks for all classes. In an interaction with PTI editors at the agency's headquarters here, the NCERT chief said both the words will be used in the books and the council has no aversion to either "Bharat" or "India". "It is interchangeable....our position is what our Constitution says and we uphold that. We can use Bharat, we can use India, what is the problem? We are not in that debate. Israel Military's Daily Pauses For Gaza Aid Delivery Pitch Irks Netanyahu

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu criticized plans announced by the military on Sunday to hold daily tactical pauses in fighting along one of the main roads into Gaza to facilitate aid delivery into the Palestinian enclave. The military had announced the daily pauses from 0500 GMT until 1600 GMT in the area from the Kerem Shalom Crossing to the Salah al-Din Road and then northwards. "When the prime minister heard the reports of an 11-hour humanitarian pause in the morning, he turned to his military secretary and made it clear that this was unacceptable to him," an Israeli official said. The military clarified that normal operations would continue in Rafah, the main focus of its operation in southern Gaza, where eight soldiers were killed on Saturday. The reaction from Netanyahu underlined political tensions over the issue of aid coming into Gaza, where international organisations have warned of a growing humanitarian crisis. National Security Minister Itamar Ben-...

Rishi Sunak Set For Wipeout In Upcoming UK Elections, Show Opinion Polls

Three British opinion polls released late on Saturday presented a grim picture for Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's Conservative Party, and one pollster warned that the party faced "electoral extinction" in July 4's election. The polls come just over halfway through the election campaign, after a week in which both the Conservatives and Labour set out their manifestos, and shortly before voters begin to receive postal ballots. Sunak surprised many in his own party by announcing an early election on May 22, against widespread expectations that he would wait until later in the year to allow more time for living standards to recover after the highest inflation in 40 years. Market research company Savanta found 46% support for Keir Starmer's Labour Party, up 2 points on the previous poll five days earlier, while support for the Conservatives dropped 4 points to 21%. The poll was conducted from June 12 to June 14 for the Sunday Telegraph. Labour's 25-point lead was...
